SwellChel Does Christmas: Two FREE printables to start off the festivities!

Yay!  Tomorrow is December 1st and I'm so excited for the Christmas season!  To start things off I wanted to share TWO free printables with you.

Who doesn't love the movie Elf?!?!
I saw this quote on an image on Pinterest and I thought it would be a fun printable.
I printed it out 8x10 at Costco and put in a frame near my Christmas decor.

I saw this DARLING idea on Oopsey Daisy here.  Alison used this sort-of-advent calendar when she taught first grade.  Instead of making one with scrapbook paper I decided to create a version on Photoshop.  I printed it out as an 8x10 on card stock, and then every day (starting December 1st) I'll have one of my kids glue on a cotton ball.  By December 25th we should have a very full Santa's beard!  I also thought it would be an easy (and cheap) craft to give to neighbor's with kids, church friends, playmates, etc.

SwellChel Does Thanksgiving: Mayflower Thanksgiving Place Cards

Last year I made the Pilgrim Hat Place Cards for our Thanksgiving dinner,
and I came across a new idea this year:

Mini Mayflower Nut Cup Ships
from The Crafting Chicks ... find the post here

They even offered a free printable to make some of your own mini-Mayflowers!

I think they turned out pretty cute
and I can't wait to put them out on the Thanksgiving table!

SwellChel Does Thanksgiving: Pilgrim Hat Cookies

Here is a little treat that I made for a playgroup today ...

Used upside-down Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies,
put an upside-down mini peanut butter cup on top,
and used tubed icing to draw on the "pilgrim hat"

... do I wish I had a perfectly steady hand while doing the icing?  yes.
... do the kids really care?  no.

I saw the idea at Woman's Day.
Check it out here.

SwellChel Does Thanksgiving: Free Thanksgiving Printables for KIDS!

I am amazed by all of the talented bloggers out there who create wonderful {free} printables for teaching our kids!  There are Thanksgiving printables out there for toddlers, preschool, kindergarten and more.

Last year I printed out some of our favorite printables and put them in clear page-protectors.  I keep them in a thin 3-ring binder with a dry-erase marker so my kids can do the activities whenever they feel like it.  I stored it with my Thanksgiving decorations and updated it when I brought it out again this year.

Here is an idea of what it looks like ...

I thought I would link up to some great and FREE Thanksgiving printables in case anyone was interested!  They also would be fun for kids at Thanksgiving dinner, for your preschool group, etc.

Here is an example of what is include in the

SwellChel Does Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving Day skit from Oopsey Daisy

Last year I came across the cutest idea from Oopsey Daisy.
I found it here.

She created a Thanksgiving Day skit and I used it at our big family Thanksgiving last year.  We assigned everybody a part ... some people were Indians, some were turkeys, etc.  As the narrator read the skit and said the characters names they would respond with their part.  For instance when the narrator said the word "turkeys" all of the assigned turkeys in the room would chant "gobble gobble gobble."  It was fun and we were cracking up by the end ... the kids especially loved it!

Click on the link above to find the skit and download it!

SwellChel Does Thanksgiving: Thankful Tree and Thankful Turkey

Here are two easy ideas I have done in the past to display the things our family are grateful for ...

1. Thankful Tree
Family members write what they are grateful for on the leaves and display them on the tree

2. Thankful Turkey
Have your child write what they are grateful for on feathers and attach them to a turkey

3. Thankful Tree using actual branches
This isn't one I made but I don't have a picture of the one I made before :)

SwellChel Does Thanksgiving: Pilgrim Hat Name Cards

Last year I begged my mother to let me be in charge of the name cards for our Thanksgiving meal.  I had seen this idea at the Dating Divas here and thought it looked so cute!

Pilgrim Hat Name Cards

They were so easy to make!  I just put wrapped Hershey Kisses inside the cone, glued it upside down to a bigger black circle, and made the yellow hat band to fit around.  I used a white colored pencil to write everyone's names on their hat.  It was fun to see the Thanksgiving table decorated with these - the kids especially loved it!
